This tavern, translated as “to their sons” is a new incarnation of a tavern owned by the Father of one of the current owners, on the road to the El Greco Museum. It is rustic and homey with a fireplace for winter and a huge porch on the edge of a creek for outdoor dining when weather permits. The menu includes items from all parts of the island with some inventive touches such as Cretan Risotto, which is actually orzo resplendent with eggplant, zucchini, sun-dried tomatoes & apaki (smoked pork). Their version of Stifado (onion-wine ragout) is made of Lamb's liver or snails and a real delight is the light-as-air leek & mushroom pie. The service (mostly by one of the owners) is very friendly and efficient. The food is genuine, hearty and tasty and is great value for your money.

We have been eating at STOUSGIOUSTOUS for years, and have never been dissapointed.
The chefs offer innovative Cretan cuisine with a twist, including a selection of dishes one can only find in this taverna.
Have fun throwing some bread to the ducks while degustating different mezes, and sipping good wine..!
The service is always hand in hand with a big smile, the atmosphere is relaxed and familiar, and the value outstanding. Highly recommended spot to finish a nice stroll in the famous village, after visiting the museum and buying traditional Cretan crafts from the grannies
