Taverna SYLAMOS (ΣΥΛΑΜΟΣ)

Nestled at the end of a lovely small gorge that runs from just outside of Arhanes toward Vassilies, you will find this sweet little tavern in what seems like the middle of a wilderness. It is a real family affair with Mother cooking and sons taking care of the "front of the house". All the products are excellent quality so any choice is a good one. The limited menu has some lovely surprises such as the Keftedes Sylamos. Here the meatballs are baked in a clay pot topped with yoghurt and cheese. Another sure thing is the Lamb Mandrakis, which is lamb, baked again in a clay pot this time with a red ouzo sauce and yoghurt. Sylamos Tavern is great for an excursion if you don't want to venture too far from Heraklion.
