A nice addition to the Heraklion Italian dining scene, Pepe Nero opened half a year ago on the trendy Handakos street. The décor is warm and inviting, with beige predominating and light and dark wood interspersed with stone. There are tables outside on the street, but all the windows open completely, so even inside you feel the outside. The kitchen is an open one, so the Chef and staff are on their best behavior.  Not too many surprises regarding the pastas, but good quality products are used to create admirable Italian dishes. The Orecchiette is particularly good with sun-dried tomatoes and prosciutto in an excellent sauce.  the Secondi Piatti are more innovative. Try the grilled salmon with a rosé-pink peppercorn sauce. The very good Salad Pepe Nero is resplendent with Ruccola, pancetta, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and herbed croutons. For a starter, the Prosciutto-Mozzarella is a sure bet because the ingredients are excellent.  The wine list is not too adventurous, but the house white from Siva-Daskalakis is an inspired choice.

Try the crostinis, the cozze and the salmon fillet- Divine !
The white wine is excellent too..and the service impeccable.
