Restaurant MARAZAKIS (ΜΑΡΑΖΑΚΗΣ)

This unassuming, unpretentious little tavern has in fact won some gourmet awards for their traditional Cretan cuisine. Many Heraklion residents have long been fans but it could still be considered a well-kept secret. They have excellent versions of well-loved Cretan dishes such as rosemary-scented sautéed snails and rabbit stifado (stew). A regular menu item that is a must-try is their lamb baked with lettuce or other seasonal greens in a lemon sauce.
